Hi, I’m Mónica, the owner and teacher at Drypp Drop Workshop in Boulder, CO. Though my bachelor’s degree is in Music Education, my passion for art has been a lifelong journey. I’ve pursued college art classes, earned a fine arts certificate, and taught high school art.
The inspiration for my own art lesson workshop comes from my high school years, where I learned from local artists who opened their homes to teach teens how to paint. Their kindness and creativity left a lasting impression on me, and they continue to inspire my teaching today.
Why Drypp Drop?
"Drypp Drop" is Norwegian for "Drip Drop." Growing up, I found myself deeply inspired by the artists and musicians of Norway figures like Edvard Grieg, Harriet Backer, Edvard Munch, and Nikolai Astrup. Their bold use of color, emotion, and expression in their art and music turned my soul toward art. Drypp Drop Workshop is a tribute to these artists, who left small "drip drops" of inspiration that fueled many artists’ like myself on their own artistic journeys. Just like those drops of inspiration, I hope to inspire every student who walks through our doors to find their own creative voice.
Teaching art, whether in schools, studios, or virtually, feels like home to me. I believe every child is an artist and musician, and watching my students gain confidence as they freely express themselves is the greatest joy.
As a former school-teacher, I believe that most school art classes are wonderful introductions to creativity. But they’re often limited by time, class size, curriculum requirements, and the need to move an entire group through the same assignment at the same pace.
Students get real, meaningful studio time.
Sessions are 2–3 hours long - something school simply can’t offer. This gives artists space to actually get into flow, work deeply, make decisions, and experience what it feels like to build a painting from start to finish.
Individual guidance, not one-size-fits-all lessons.
Instead of everyone doing the same project, I work closely with each student on what they want to create.
Every artist gets creative choices that honor their style and interests. This is where real growth happens.
A Creative Community. NOT a classroom.
Students sit together like artists in a shared studio: talking, exploring ideas, sharing references, giving (and receiving) feedback, and enjoying the process.
It’s social, supportive, and creatively inspiring in a way that a traditional class setting can’t replicate.
Real-world art skills & technique.
Students learn what working artists actually use:
Color theory that makes sense
Composition choices that strengthen their work
How to paint from reference photos
How to develop their own artistic voice
How to build a long-term project
These skills stay with them for life.
A growth-mindset environment.
There is zero pressure and zero comparison here.
Mistakes become part of the process. Exploration is encouraged. Students learn how to problem-solve, take creative risks, and trust themselves.
These classes support emotional growth just as much as artistic growth.
A space for self-expression and self-confidence.
Teens and kids get the freedom to explore their interests without grades, deadlines, or rubrics.
They get to see themselves as artists, not just students completing assignments.
This does wonders for their confidence and motivation.
It complements school art beautifully.
Instead of replacing school art, this experience enriches it. Students bring their improved technique, stronger ideas, and deeper creative thinking back into their schoolwork.
