Music lessons with me are designed to be personal, flexible, and inspiring, focused on helping each student build solid musicianship while playing music they genuinely love. Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced player looking to grow, I create lessons that meet you exactly where you are.

All lessons take place in Mónica’s colorful and comfy Home Studio in Colorado Springs.

please note, there are 3 studio cats and 1 sweet greyhound, and a strong air purifier for those with allergies 🐯🐯🐯🐺

Every student is unique, and your lessons should reflect that. I adapt materials, pacing, and styles so you’re learning skills that match your personality, your goals, and the kind of musician you want to become.

I regularly pull from:

  • Faber Piano Adventures (my personal fave!)

  • Bastien

  • Alfred’s

  • Piano Pronto

  • Lead sheets and chord charts

  • Student-selected songs

  • Improvisation exercises

  • Technique drills tailored to each learner

Students get a balance of:

  • Technique that builds confidence

  • Theory that actually makes sense

  • Repertoire they’re excited to practice

  • Creative exploration

  • Musicianship skills that last a lifetime

Why I Teach Music

I believe music lessons should be an uplifting, affirming part of a student’s week, not one more thing to stress about. Music gives people a place to express themselves, explore emotions, and build discipline and confidence in a way that’s creative and joyful.

I teach because I want students to:

  • Experience the magic of making something beautiful

  • Feel grounded and confident through creative expression

  • Build a relationship with music that supports them for life

  • Learn in a way that honors their unique learning style

  • Have a teacher who sees them as whole artists, not just players of an instrument

My goal is to meet every student where they are and help them become the musician they want to be, whether that means classical piano, songwriting, pop covers, beginning improvisation, or simply playing for fun.

Who My Lessons Are For

  • Kids, teens, or adults who want a supportive, patient teacher

  • Beginners who feel nervous or unsure

  • Students who want to learn through music they love

  • Students who want a mix of technique + creativity

  • Homeschool families looking for a long-term music mentor

  • Anyone wanting a flexible, encouraging teacher with 20+ years of experience

Studio Policies

Private Music Lessons · Colorado Springs, CO

Enrollment & Tuition

Lessons are offered through an annual enrollment model of 37 lessons per year, aligned with the school calendar and scheduled home-studio breaks.

Tuition is divided into equal monthly payments (yearly or monthly payment option) to provide consistent instruction and secure each student’s weekly lesson time. Monthly tuition remains the same regardless of holidays or breaks.

What’s Included in Tuition

Tuition covers far more than a weekly lesson. Enrollment includes:

  • 37 guaranteed private lessons per year through the Annual Enrollment model

  • Two studio recitals per year, giving students performance experience in a supportive, low-pressure environment

  • Two Piano Parties per year with fellow students and friends

    • One at the end of summer, where students play for one another and enjoy popsicles on the porch to celebrate each other’s growth

    • One additional studio community gathering during the year

  • Reserved weekly lesson time for the full enrollment period

  • Teacher preparation and individualized lesson planning

  • Access to Zoom lessons when in-person lessons are not possible (snow days, illness, etc.)

Missed Lessons & Make-Ups

  • 24 hours’ notice is required to be eligible for a make-up lesson. Life happens! I get it and will do my best to accommodate but this cannot be guaranteed.

  • Missed lessons without notice will not be made up.

  • Make-ups are scheduled as availability allows and are not guaranteed.

  • Tuition is not refunded or prorated for missed lessons.

❄️ Snow Day Policy

Because Colorado Springs weather can be unpredictable, snow days follow local school district closures.

  • If schools are closed due to weather, lessons will move to Zoom that day.

  • If you do not feel safe driving in snowy weather, lessons will move to Zoom that day.

  • If in-person instruction is preferred, families may contact Monica to arrange a make-up lesson, subject to availability.

🤒 Illness Policy

To keep everyone safe and healthy:

  • Students who are feeling ill should not attend in-person lessons at the home studio.

  • Families may:

    • Request a Zoom lesson by texting ahead of time, or

    • Arrange a make-up lesson with advance notice.

Thank you for helping maintain a healthy studio environment.

Pausing/Ending LEssons

Because lesson times are reserved and held specifically for each student, the studio requires written notice at least one month in advance to pause or end enrollment.

  • During the notice period, paid lessons will continue as scheduled.

  • If a family chooses not to attend lessons during the final month, any remaining paid lessons are forfeited.

  • Tuition is not refunded or prorated for early termination.

This policy allows the studio to plan schedules responsibly and offer openings to students on the waitlist.

Instructor Cancellations & Tuition Changes

If the Instructor must cancel a lesson on a date when the studio is normally open, one of the following will be offered:

  • A make-up lesson, scheduled as availability allows, or

  • A reimbursement equal to the per-lesson value
(currently $35 for a 30-minute lesson; longer lessons reimbursed at their equivalent rate)

Tuition rates are subject to change. Families will be notified in advance of any rate changes, which will take effect at the start of the next billing cycle.

Online Lessons (Zoom)

Zoom lessons are considered equivalent to in-person instruction and may be used for:

  • Snow days

  • Illness

  • Travel

  • Other unavoidable circumstances

Students should be set up in a quiet space with their instrument and materials ready.

🎹 Practice & Preparation

Regular practice between lessons is essential for progress. Practice expectations will be tailored to each student’s age, experience, and goals and communicated clearly during lessons.

Home Studio Etiquette

The studio is a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming space.

Parents/guardians are welcome to watch quietly on the couch unless otherwise discussed. Siblings and guests should minimize distractions during lesson time.

Communication

Text or email is the preferred method for communication regarding:

  • Schedule changes

  • Illness or weather concerns

  • Zoom lesson requests

Please allow up to 24 hours for non-urgent responses.

Community & Values

“You belong here.”

Mutual respect, kindness, and consistency are expected from all students and families. The goal of the studio is long-term growth, confidence, and a positive relationship with music.

Hi, I’m Mónica, the owner and teacher at Drypp Drop Workshop in Boulder, CO.

My Musical Background

I’ve been a performing and teaching musician for over two decades.

Highlights include:

  • Teaching piano since 2004

  • Earning a Music Education degree in 2014

  • Teaching classroom music, including choir and co-founding a guitar–ukulele ensemble at a private school

  • Performing in original music projects

  • Solo piano concerts

  • Serving as a choir accompanist

  • Singing and touring with a collegiate choir (as both singer and accompanist)

  • Performing in a Coldplay tribute band since 2020

This blend of performance and teaching experience allows me to teach not just “how to play the notes,” but how to play with expression, confidence, and musicianship.

Why Drypp Drop?

"Drypp Drop" is Norwegian for "Drip Drop." Growing up, I found myself deeply inspired by the artists and musicians of Norway figures like Edvard Grieg, Harriet Backer, Edvard Munch, and Nikolai Astrup. Their bold use of color, emotion, and expression in their art and music turned my soul toward art. Drypp Drop Workshop is a tribute to these artists, who left small "drip drops" of inspiration that fueled many artists’ like myself on their own artistic journeys. Just like those drops of inspiration, I hope to inspire every student who walks through our doors to find their own creative voice.

Teaching art and music, whether in schools, studios, or virtually, feels like home to me. I believe every child is an artist, and watching my students gain confidence as they freely express themselves is the greatest joy.
